oh say can you see that I'm back

so I haven't been here in a while. I've been "busy" I suppose, but now I have the time, so I'll try to use it.

I like Florida. Nice people. The possibility of hurricanes... not so nice. C'est la vie.

Hasta la vista, baby

I got high.

Drug references aside, this was right after my first solo in the Cessna 152. In case you don't know, flying is sweet. Posted by Picasa

Quack-y

Erika and I decided it would be a great idea to feed the ducks.

The ducks definitely agreed. Posted by Picasa

This show was Wicked

Erika and I went to Chicago to watch this musical. We had a great time.

We went on June 17. Posted by Picasa

Waltzing Matilda

So I'm taking ballroom classes this summer. It meets Mondays and goes for a little more than an hour.

Anyways, today was the second session on waltz. We had two extra guys today so this guy "volunteers" to dance a "following role" i.e. he was a girl for the evening. Apparently he is learning to instruct, so it is very important to learn how to follow (so he can teach it). Well, whatever his reasons, it didn't bode so well for me.

We were supposed to be rotating partners, but he always seemed to be getting back to me. It almost turned into a running joke. He was a good follow... so I guess that was good.

I'm feeling pretty proficient with the basic Waltz steps. Next week is the Tango, which I've always found intimidating.

I'll possibly be flying my "cross country solo" to SBN tomorrow, weather permitting. Final on Wednesday, argh. Ok, back to music organizing / studying. Oh yeah.. pictures!

Looooong time no see (again)

I seem to have one of these kinds of posts after longs blog droughts. Well, I'm currently in South Bend, learning how to fly.

I'll be heading to Pensacola in August.

I got commissioned into the Navy and graduated from ND in May.

Cool, huh?

Sweet pictures and stuff coming soon.

Another "long time, no see"

Hmm.. I'm posting. Which means I'm either bored or writing a paper. Unforunately... it's the latter.

For whatever reason, I've decided not to skip any classes today. I've actually done all the work for those classes so I fell that I should go.

Let's see how this paper will go.

Ok, I'm out.

never been so excited about shoes

Hey ya'll,

It's been a while, no? Well, I'm still in the Philippines, but I'll be leaving early tomorrow. I've been having a great time, but I'm definitely ready to get home. (long distance calls will be much cheaper)

To date, I've spent a whole bunch of money on long distance, but it's been very worth it.

Yesterday was fun. I had a long laundry list of things to do/buy and got it all done.

We went to a market when they make high quality handmade shoes. I didn't expect to find anything but I actually came upon a diamond in the rough. We stopped at a store that only makes custom request shoes to see if they had anything. In the corner we discovered that they had the shoes I've kinda been searching for for the past couple years. Go ahead and laugh at me, but I have found the perfect pair of swing dance shoes. They're black and white wing tips with leather bottoms and extra padding. They only had one pair (as it was a custom order by someone who never picked it up) and it fit me perfectly. It's almost as if they were made for me. I'd like to think so anyways. So be on the lookout, you'll see them sometime soon.

I also picked up a karaoke player. 6000 songs. hahaha, this is an investment for the future for sure, but be sure to stop by and sing a couple songs. I'm thinking of sponsoring a Callaghans themed party for the London folk.

Ok, need to pack,

fun times in the Philippines

Our luggage was found, though a little worse for wear.

Family reunions are awesome.

This internet cafe is just a couple houses down from our house.

I really like getting emails from loved ones.

My dad, brother, and I are getting lots of invitations to visit other households, though I think we'll have to start refusing.

Christmas is almost here.

Resolutions?

More later,
Michael

Calling from Home

Howdy folks,

Currently in the Philippines after a day and a half or so of traveling.

I bought a 7 dollar phone card in Hong Kong and it got me just 6 mins and 23 seconds to NY. Boo.

Lots of delays and all of my clothes are currently lost in the system, but I'm sure I'll get my stuff back sometime today.

It's about 80 degrees here, but it's been great seeing the neighborhood where my dad grew up.

Of course, I'm eating some great food.

Happy 22nd Birthday Erika!

I'll keep y'all updated.

Take it medium,

I'll be "home" for Christmas

By home I mean the motherland... aka the PI aka the Philippines.

That's right folks, for the first time ever, I'll be celebrating Christmas (and New Year's in fact) in the Philippines with my dad's family. I'll be there for a whole month with my dad, who is so excited that my mom wants to get rid of him already. My brother will be there too, but only for a couple weeks. Needless to say, I'm super-excited as well. Too bad I miss the Fiesta Bowl. I think my grandpa on my mom's side has ESPN. I leave on Monday. w00t!

It took a long time to get home today, but at least I got home. Let's recount:
-3:30 flight delayed til 5:50
-flight to Chicago required some circling
-3 hour extra wait in Chicago
-30 minute wait for bag

'Tis the season for delays I suppose. I was fine with it all actually. I had my trusty mp3 player, which I did not turn off... even when they asked. oops.

My next post may be from the other side of the globe.

Much love,

all smiles for early Christmas presents

Erika made a huge poster-sized photomosaic of the Dome using alot of my pictures of campus, so it's "my experience under the dome." Probably the best gift someone could give me. I'm so lucky. :-D Too bad I'll be away for a month.

*I wonder how much international calls are...*

Much love,
